Figure: Schematic depicting the general mechanism of prokaryotic translation. The tRNA is acylated by its aminoacyl tRNA synthetase before being transported to the ribosome by EF-Tu. The ribosome adds the amino acid to the growing peptide chain following GTP hydrolysis and EF-Tu release.
